On June 21, I had the opportunity to participate in a gathering that was held with the joint efforts of a number of civil society activists, social influencers, and the Rawand-e Nawin-e Jaghori (Jaghori New Trend/JNT) organization. This meeting was hosted by a civil society activist, Engineer Fazel Ahmadi.

One of its most important goals was to discuss the deadlock occurred in the elections of Ghazni province and to find legal and civil solutions to break this deadlock. The wide presence of various spectrums of the society – including social influencers, civil activists, religious scholars, intellectuals and academics, and representatives of unions and associations – was very noticeable, and fortunately, a number of young women also took part in it.

Its most outstanding achievement is the formation of a commission that, after breathless bargaining and voting, the participants finally agreed on. One of the most important responsibilities of this commission is to consult with influential people, civil activists, scholars, intellectuals, and representatives of the other districts of Ghazni province to find a solution for the aforementioned impasse with the joint efforts of all the citizens of this province.

Another part of this commission’s duties is to negotiate with the candidates for the parliamentary elections from Jaghori district. All those present in this gathering expressed concern about the number of candidates and considered it one of the big challenges of this election. Ultimately, the participants recommended the commission to find civil and democratic ways and mechanisms to reduce candidates.

I hope this commission can achieve its goals. It will be possible through the cooperation of various spectrums, especially influential figures and institutions, and especially respected candidates.

It is worth mentioning that the gathering and the agreements that came out of it are, in fact, the result of the efforts of another commission that was formed two weeks ago at the home of Mohammad Hosain Ehtyar. The former commission’s main responsibility was to prepare the ground for this gathering.

I would like to thank Mr. Mohammad Hosain Ekhtyar and Fazel Ahmadi for their wonderful hospitality and tireless efforts, and I wish them more success.
