Farewell to My Friend, Jamal Temori

Last week, on June 21st, we gathered to bid farewell to our brilliant friend, Jamal Temori. It was one of the most difficult moments I’ve experienced. Jamal has been one of my closest and most trustworthy friends for the past 11 years.

During this time, Jamal was not only my classmate at Avicenna University in Kabul but also a very supportive colleague in three organizations, including the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES). Additionally, he was an active partner in organizing and conducting several theoretical and pragmatic training courses on journalism for our young journalists and media activists in Kabul in 2013 and 2014.

Our friendship and partnership began in 2007 during a journalism training program. Jamal left Kabul on June 22nd to continue his studies at the University of Queensland in Australia.

I am incredibly proud to have had such an extraordinary friend, and I wish him the very best in life and a bright future.
